Terms of Service

Last updated: April 13, 2026

Please read these Terms of Service ("Terms," "Terms of Service") carefully before using the Scrawl AI mobile application and web application (collectively, the "Service") operated by Scrawl AI ("Scrawl," "Company," "we," "us," or "our"). Your access to and use of the Service is conditioned on your acceptance of and compliance with these Terms. These Terms apply to all visitors, users, and others who access or use the Service. By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you disagree with any part of these Terms, then you may not access the Service.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use Scrawl. If you are under 18, you represent and warrant that your parent or legal guardian has reviewed and agreed to these Terms on your behalf. If you are accepting these Terms on behalf of an organization or entity, you represent and warrant that you have the authority to bind that organization to these Terms.

2. Account Registration and Security

  • You must provide accurate, current, and complete information during the registration process and keep your account information up to date.
  • You are solely responsible for maintaining the confidentiality and security of your account credentials, including your password.
  • You may not share your account credentials with any other person or allow any other person to access your account.
  • You are fully responsible for all activities that occur under your account, whether or not you authorized such activities.
  • You must immediately notify us of any unauthorized use of your account or any other breach of security.
  • We will not be liable for any loss or damage arising from your failure to comply with this section.
  • You may delete your account at any time from within the app (Settings → Delete Account). Account deletion is permanent and cannot be undone.

3. Description of the Service

Scrawl is an AI-powered study tool that allows you to photograph, scan, or upload homework problems, which are then solved using artificial intelligence and rendered as handwritten-style PDF documents. The Service includes a mobile application, web application, and associated backend infrastructure. The Service is provided solely as a study aid and educational tool to help you learn and understand academic concepts.

4. Acceptable Use Policy

You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms. You agree not to:

  • Use the Service to submit AI-generated work as your own in violation of your educational institution's academic integrity, honor code, or similar policies. Scrawl is a study and learning tool — you are solely responsible for how you use the solutions generated by the Service and for complying with your institution's rules.
  • Upload, transmit, or otherwise make available any content that is unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, tortious, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, libelous, invasive of another's privacy, hateful, or racially, ethnically, or otherwise objectionable.
  • Upload, transmit, or otherwise make available any content that you do not have a right to make available under any law or under contractual or fiduciary relationships.
  • Upload, transmit, or otherwise make available any content that infringes any patent, trademark, trade secret, copyright, or other proprietary right of any party.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service, other user accounts, computer systems, or networks connected to the Service through hacking, password mining, or any other means.
  • Use the Service to generate content for commercial resale, redistribution, or any commercial purpose without our prior written consent.
  • Interfere with or disrupt the Service or servers or networks connected to the Service, or disobey any requirements, procedures, policies, or regulations of networks connected to the Service.
  • Use any automated means, including robots, crawlers, scrapers, or data mining tools, to access the Service for any purpose without our prior written consent.
  • Circumvent, disable, or otherwise interfere with any security-related features of the Service, including features that prevent or restrict use, enforce limitations, or prevent copying of content.
  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, disassemble, decode, or otherwise attempt to derive the source code, algorithms, or underlying structure of any part of the Service.
  • Create derivative works based on the Service or any part thereof.
  • Remove, alter, or obscure any proprietary notice, label, or marking on the Service.
  • Use the Service in any manner that could damage, disable, overburden, or impair the Service or interfere with any other party's use and enjoyment of the Service.

We reserve the right, but are not obligated, to monitor your use of the Service and to remove or disable access to any content that we determine, in our sole discretion, violates these Terms or is otherwise objectionable.

5. Subscriptions and Payments

5.1 Subscription Plans

Scrawl offers a free tier with limited functionality, paid subscription tiers that unlock additional AI model capabilities, higher page limits per submission, and additional features, and one-time purchases that grant a single solve without a recurring commitment. The specific features, limitations, and pricing of each plan are displayed within the Service and may be modified from time to time. Select subscription plans may include a 7-day free trial depending on the plan and your eligibility.

5.2 iOS App Store Subscriptions

  • Payment will be charged to your Apple ID account at the confirmation of purchase.
  • Subscriptions automatically renew unless auto-renewal is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period.
  • Your account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period at the rate of the selected plan.
  • You can manage and cancel your subscriptions by going to your device's Settings → [Your Name] → Subscriptions after purchase.
  • Any unused portion of a free trial period, if offered, will be forfeited when you purchase a subscription to the same service.
  • Prices are subject to change. We will notify you of any price changes in advance, and you will have the opportunity to cancel before the new price takes effect.

5.3 Web Subscriptions

Subscriptions purchased through our web application are processed by our third-party payment processor. The same auto-renewal and cancellation terms apply. You can manage web subscriptions through your account settings on the web application.

5.4 Refunds

Refunds for App Store purchases are handled exclusively by Apple in accordance with Apple's refund policies. To request a refund for an App Store purchase, visit reportaproblem.apple.com. Refunds for web purchases are handled in accordance with our refund policy, which provides a full refund within 7 days of purchase if you are not satisfied with the Service.

5.5 Free Trial

We offer a 7-day free trial for select subscription plans. During the trial, you have full access to all paid features. Your subscription begins automatically at the end of the trial unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial expires. Free trials are limited to one per user. If you have previously subscribed to or received a free trial of the same subscription, you may not be eligible for an additional free trial. We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or terminate free trial offers at any time without notice.

5.6 One-Time Purchases (Consumables)

  • A one-time purchase (such as "one-time solve") grants a single, non-recurring entitlement to a specific feature of the Service (e.g., one handwritten-style PDF solve). It is not a subscription and does not automatically renew.
  • One-time purchases are non-transferable between accounts and between platforms except as synced through your signed-in Scrawl account. A credit purchased on one platform (iOS or web) may be consumed on any platform where you are signed into the same account, subject to availability.
  • One-time credits are consumed at the moment a solve is submitted. If a submission fails for a reason attributable to the Service, we will make reasonable efforts to restore the credit; if it fails due to invalid input or user error, the credit may still be consumed.
  • Refunds for iOS one-time purchases are handled exclusively by Apple in accordance with Apple's refund policies. Refunded credits are decremented from your balance once Apple notifies us. Refunds for one-time purchases made on the web are handled in accordance with Section 5.4.
  • We may limit the frequency or number of one-time purchases per account in a given time window to prevent abuse. In rare cases we may pause purchases on a specific account; if this happens we will surface a notice in the Service.
  • One-time credit balances have no cash value, cannot be redeemed for cash, and do not expire solely due to the passage of time; they do, however, cease to be usable if your account is deleted.

6. Intellectual Property Rights

6.1 Your Content

You retain all ownership rights in the homework images, documents, text, and handwriting drawings you upload to the Service ("User Content"). By uploading User Content, you grant Scrawl a limited, non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, process, transmit, and temporarily store your User Content solely for the purpose of providing the Service to you. This license terminates when your User Content is deleted from our servers in accordance with our data retention policies.

6.2 Generated Solutions

PDF solutions generated by the Service ("Generated Content") are provided for your personal, non-commercial use. The AI-generated content within the solutions does not constitute our original work, and we make no claim of copyright ownership over the text of the Generated Content. However, the handwritten rendering, formatting, and visual presentation of the Generated Content are proprietary aspects of the Service.

6.3 Our Intellectual Property

The Service and its entire contents, features, and functionality — including but not limited to the Scrawl name, logo, brand elements, handwriting rendering engine, glyph compositing technology, software, text, displays, images, and the design, selection, and arrangement thereof — are owned by Scrawl AI and are protected by United States and international copyright, trademark, patent, trade secret, and other intellectual property or proprietary rights laws. You may not reproduce, distribute, modify, create derivative works of, publicly display, publicly perform, republish, download, store, or transmit any materials from the Service, except as permitted by these Terms.

6.4 Feedback

If you provide us with any feedback, suggestions, improvements, or ideas regarding the Service ("Feedback"), you hereby assign to us all right, title, and interest in and to such Feedback, and we shall be free to use, disclose, reproduce, license, and otherwise distribute and exploit the Feedback without restriction or obligation to you.

7. AI-Generated Content Disclaimer

The Service uses artificial intelligence to generate solutions to homework and academic problems. You acknowledge and agree that:

  • AI-generated solutions may contain errors, inaccuracies, omissions, or incomplete reasoning.
  • The Service does not guarantee the correctness, completeness, or reliability of any solution.
  • You are solely responsible for reviewing, verifying, and validating all AI-generated solutions before using them for any purpose, including but not limited to academic submissions.
  • Scrawl is not responsible for any academic consequences, including but not limited to failing grades, academic probation, suspension, or expulsion, arising from your use of or reliance on AI-generated solutions.
  • The Service should be used as a supplementary study tool and not as a replacement for your own learning, understanding, and academic effort.
  • AI models may produce different results for the same input at different times, and we do not guarantee consistency of results.

8. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis, without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, and non-infringement. Without limiting the foregoing, Scrawl does not warrant that: (a) the Service will meet your specific requirements or expectations; (b) the Service will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free; (c) the results that may be obtained from the use of the Service will be accurate, reliable, or correct; (d) the quality of any solutions, information, or other material obtained by you through the Service will meet your expectations; or (e) any errors in the Service will be corrected. No advice or information, whether oral or written, obtained by you from Scrawl or through the Service shall create any warranty not expressly stated in these Terms.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, in no event shall Scrawl, its officers, directors, employees, agents, partners, suppliers, or affiliates be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, including without limitation damages for loss of profits, goodwill, use, data, or other intangible losses (even if Scrawl has been advised of the possibility of such damages), arising out of or in connection with: (a) your access to or use of, or inability to access or use, the Service; (b) any conduct or content of any third party on the Service; (c) any content obtained from the Service; (d) unauthorized access, use, or alteration of your transmissions or content; (e) the accuracy, correctness, or reliability of any AI-generated solutions; or (f) any academic consequences arising from your use of the Service.

In no event shall Scrawl's aggregate liability for all claims arising out of or relating to the use of or inability to use the Service exceed the greater of: (a) the amount you paid to Scrawl during the twelve (12) months immediately preceding the date of the claim; or (b) one hundred dollars ($100.00).

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages, so some or all of the above exclusions and limitations may not apply to you. In such jurisdictions, Scrawl's liability shall be limited to the fullest extent permitted by applicable law.

10. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Scrawl AI, its officers, directors, employees, agents, partners, suppliers, and affiliates from and against any and all claims, damages, obligations, losses, liabilities, costs, or debt, and expenses (including but not limited to attorney's fees) arising from or relating to: (a) your use of and access to the Service; (b) your violation of any provision of these Terms; (c) your violation of any third-party right, including without limitation any copyright, trademark, trade secret, or other property or privacy right; (d) your violation of any applicable law, regulation, or governmental rule; (e) any claim that your User Content caused damage to a third party; or (f) your violation of your educational institution's academic integrity policies in connection with your use of the Service. This defense and indemnification obligation will survive termination of these Terms and your use of the Service.

11. Dispute Resolution and Arbitration

11.1 Informal Resolution

Before filing a formal dispute, you agree to first contact us at support@scrawlai.app and attempt to resolve the dispute informally. We will attempt to resolve the dispute by contacting you via email within 30 days.

11.2 Binding Arbitration

If we cannot resolve a dispute informally, any dispute, controversy, or claim arising out of or relating to these Terms or the breach, termination, enforcement, interpretation, or validity thereof, including the determination of the scope or applicability of this agreement to arbitrate, shall be determined by binding arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association ("AAA") in accordance with its Consumer Arbitration Rules. The arbitration shall be conducted in Baltimore, Maryland, unless otherwise agreed by the parties. Judgment on the award rendered by the arbitrator may be entered in any court having jurisdiction thereof.

11.3 Class Action Waiver

You and Scrawl agree that each may bring claims against the other only in your or its individual capacity, and not as a plaintiff or class member in any purported class, consolidated, or representative proceeding. Unless both you and Scrawl agree otherwise, the arbitrator may not consolidate or join more than one person's or party's claims and may not otherwise preside over any form of a consolidated, representative, or class proceeding.

11.4 Exceptions

Notwithstanding the foregoing, either party may seek injunctive or other equitable relief in any court of competent jurisdiction to prevent the actual or threatened infringement, misappropriation, or violation of a party's copyrights, trademarks, trade secrets, patents, or other intellectual property rights.

12. Service Availability and Modifications

We strive to keep the Service available at all times but do not guarantee uninterrupted, continuous, or error-free access. The Service may be subject to limitations, delays, and other problems inherent in the use of the Internet, electronic communications, and cloud-based infrastructure. We are not responsible for any delays, delivery failures, or other damage resulting from such problems.

We reserve the right, at any time, to modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service (in whole or in part) with or without notice to you. We shall not be liable to you or to any third party for any modification, price change, suspension, or discontinuance of the Service. We will make commercially reasonable efforts to notify you of material changes to the Service in advance.

13. Termination

We may terminate or suspend your account and access to the Service immediately, without prior notice or liability, for any reason whatsoever, including without limitation if you breach these Terms. Upon termination, your right to use the Service will immediately cease. All provisions of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination shall survive termination, including without limitation ownership provisions, warranty disclaimers, indemnification, limitation of liability, and dispute resolution provisions.

You may terminate your account at any time by using the account deletion feature within the app (Settings → Delete Account). Upon deletion, your personal data will be removed from our servers in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

14. Force Majeure

Scrawl shall not be liable for any failure or delay in performing its obligations under these Terms where such failure or delay results from any cause that is beyond our reasonable control, including but not limited to acts of God, natural disasters, war, terrorism, riots, embargoes, acts of civil or military authorities, fire, floods, epidemics, pandemics, strikes, power outages, telecommunications or Internet failures, or cyberattacks.

15. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is held to be invalid, illegal, or unenforceable by a court of competent jurisdiction, such invalidity, illegality, or unenforceability shall not affect any other provision of these Terms, and these Terms shall be construed as if such invalid, illegal, or unenforceable provision had never been contained herein. The remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect.

16. Waiver

The failure of Scrawl to enforce any right or provision of these Terms shall not be deemed a waiver of such right or provision. Any waiver of any provision of these Terms will be effective only if in writing and signed by Scrawl.

17. Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy and any other legal notices or agreements published by us on the Service, constitute the entire agreement between you and Scrawl regarding the Service and supersede all prior and contemporaneous understandings, agreements, representations, and warranties, both written and oral, regarding the Service.

18. Assignment

You may not assign or transfer these Terms, by operation of law or otherwise, without our prior written consent. Any attempt by you to assign or transfer these Terms without such consent will be null and void. We may freely assign or transfer these Terms without restriction. Subject to the foregoing, these Terms will bind and inure to the benefit of the parties, their successors, and permitted assigns.

19. Third-Party Beneficiaries

These Terms do not and are not intended to confer any rights or remedies upon any person or entity other than the parties hereto.

20. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Maryland, United States, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. To the extent that any lawsuit or court proceeding is permitted hereunder, you and Scrawl agree to submit to the personal and exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in Baltimore City, Maryland.

21. Changes to These Terms

We reserve the right, in our sole discretion, to modify or replace these Terms at any time. If a revision is material, we will make reasonable efforts to provide at least 30 days' notice prior to any new terms taking effect by posting the updated Terms within the Service and updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. What constitutes a material change will be determined at our sole discretion. By continuing to access or use our Service after those revisions become effective, you agree to be bound by the revised Terms. If you do not agree to the new Terms, in whole or in part, please stop using the Service.
